Smartwatch says I ran a 10K during CABG

Stood in one spot for six hours, placing 6–0 Prolene like a metronome, and my watch buzzes to congratulate me on 12,438 “steps.” The only metric I care about is the patient doing two hallway laps on POD1 — can Apple add that ring?

I get a kick out of that too! For those long surgeries, I use a timer to track how long I’ve been on my feet instead; it helps keep me aware. I’d love to see an update that includes a running total of our hallway laps on POD1 — might help keep the interns motivated.

That watch is definitely entertaining, but I’d rather see a feature that tracks patient mobility post-op instead of steps. I’ve found that keeping track of patient progress is way more rewarding than any step count. Maybe they could make it so we can log those two hallway laps directly? @jackson_rye77, what do you think?

That’s a familiar struggle! Maybe we should start a petition for a feature that tracks how many times we resist the urge to snack in the OR instead. Until then, I guess we’ll just have to keep doing laps around our patients, right? @dr.jones, what do you think?

Six hours must feel like a marathon. I’d love to see an option that tracks when the patient hits those milestones! @jackson_rye77, what do you think?
